Prairie Trail Hy-Vee Is Ready To Continue Hy-Vee Tradition
September 23, 2013 | News & Press Releases
For the second time in four weeks, Hy-Vee is set to open a 90,000-square-foot store in central Iowa. For a company that is continually expanding, it is fitting that the new store, Ankeny No. 2, joins a community that has increased its population by more than 50 percent since 2000.
But unlike the new Waukee store that opened in August and was the first Hy-Vee in the community, Ankeny No. 2 joins Ankeny No. 1 in expanding Hy-Vee’s service in the burgeoning community north of Des Moines.
“Hy-Vee has been part of this community for years and it is going to be a pleasure to carry on the tradition,” said Store Director Kevin Hudachek at the store’s pre-opening meeting Sept. 20.
Hudachek previously served as director of Ankeny Drugstore, which closed shortly before the new store opened.
With 640 employees, Ankeny No. 2 is the largest employer in Hy-Vee land. It will offer customers more than 70,000 SKUs through a number of new and traditional Hy-Vee departments and amenities including a Market Grille, a full-service restaurant and bar concept; a made-to-order sushi bar; a large HealthMarket and bulk foods section; a tasting room next to the walk-in beer cooler in the Wine & Spirits department; more than 180 specialty cheeses; and six chefs.
CEO Randy Edeker told the group of employees he’s looking forward to the doors opening on Sept. 24.
“Big things are happening Tuesday,” he said. “This is a very special store, with a great group of employees. People are going to come into this store and be amazed at what you have to offer.”
Hudachek is excited as well.
“We expect a lot of happy customers to come through those doors,” he said. “We’re here to take care of them.”
