FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OMAHA, Neb. (May 20, 2016) — Hy-Vee, Inc. officials announced today that the Stockyards Plaza Hy-Vee, located at 3505 L St. in Omaha, will close at the end of June and its employees will be relocated across the company’s other Omaha-area stores.

The Stockyards Plaza Hy-Vee will permanently close at 6 p.m. June 26, and all of its 174 full- and part-time employees will transition to positions at other Hy-Vee stores in the greater Omaha area.

Hy-Vee first opened the store at South 35th and L streets in 1983. Hy-Vee officials say they are closing the location because it has not met sales expectations for many years and the older building space no longer reflects the current brand standard and amenities Hy-Vee strives to offer customers.

“We understand that this store has served as an important neighborhood store for many nearby residents, and our employees will miss the connections they have made with the community. Unfortunately, resident support and our employees’ hard work have not equated to a successful sales performance in recent years,” said Brett Bremser, executive vice president of operations for Hy-Vee’s western region.

“Hy-Vee remains committed to the Omaha community and will continue with investments and improvements to our many other metro stores, as well as possibly add new stores in the near future,” Bremser added.

At the Stockyards Plaza Hy-Vee, employees are beginning to prepare for its permanent closure. Customers will be notified verbally and by signage posted throughout the store. Pharmacy customers will receive a letter informing them that their prescriptions will be transferred to the 51st & Center Hy-Vee, or a pharmacy of their choosing.

Hy-Vee’s building lease at the location expires in August 2018. The company will continue to fulfill its obligations in maintaining the property until the agreement expires or a new tenant occupies the space.
