Hy-Vee Partners with Black Women 4 Healthy Living to Host a Free COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, March 12

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (March 8, 2022) — Hy-Vee, Inc. announces today that it will host its second COVID-19 vaccination clinic in partnership with Black Women 4 Healthy Living. At the clinic, individuals ages 5+ can receive a free COVID-19 vaccine.
The clinic will be held Saturday, March 12 from noon-3 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Community Center, located at 1650 Garfield Avenue in Des Moines. Free Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines and boosters (for ages 12+) and Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines (for ages 5 to 11) will be available at the clinic. While appointments are recommended, they are not required and walk-ins are welcome.

A parent or legal guardian must consent to the vaccination and accompany all minors to their vaccinations. Individuals who receive a COVID-19 vaccine with Hy-Vee between Feb. 1 and April 30, 2022, can earn a 50-cent Hy-Vee Fuel Saver reward.
It is recommended (but not required) that vaccine recipients bring the following to their vaccination: COVID-19 vaccination record card (if applicable); insurance card (if they have insurance) and Medicare Part B red, white and blue card (if Medicare recipient) or Medicaid card (if minor is a Medicaid recipient); and photo ID. Masks are required. If individuals do not have insurance, they can still be vaccinated.
More About COVID-19 Vaccines
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine approved for ages 12+ requires two doses that should be administered at least 21* days apart. The CDC also recommends that individuals receive a COVID-19 booster at least 5 months after their second dose using an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna).
The Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine approved for ages 5 to 11 requires two doses that should be administered at least 21 days apart. At this time, Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech boosters are NOT approved for children ages 5 to 11.
Individuals who receive a first or second COVID-19 vaccine dose at the March 12 clinic may visit their local Hy-Vee Pharmacy to receive any additional COVID-19 vaccine doses within the designated timeline for their vaccine manufacturer.
*A 56-day interval between first and second doses may be optimal for some individuals ages 12+, especially for males ages 12 to 39. Data indicates that a longer time interval may help reduce the risk of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (swelling of tissue around the heart) for males ages 12 to 39. A shorter interval (21 days for Pfizer-BioNTech; 28 days for Moderna) between the first and second doses remains the recommended interval for: people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised; adults ages 65+; and others who need rapid protection due to increased concern about community transmission or risk of severe disease.
