UnitedHealthcare’s Pharmacy Saver program allows Hy-Vee to provide hundreds of low-cost medications to Medicare Part D members.

WEST DES MOINES, IA – Hy-Vee, Inc. is offering generic prescription drugs for as little as $2 to select Medicare beneficiaries through a cost-savings program.

Hy-Vee and its 228 pharmacies in eight states have joined Pharmacy Saver, a program launched last month by UnitedHealthcare, the nation’s largest Medicare Part D insurer. Through Pharmacy Saver, Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare plans have access to low-cost prescriptions at more than 6,000 locations throughout the country. Bob Egeland, vice president of pharmacy operations for Hy-Vee, said Hy-Vee customers who sign up for Pharmacy Saver can receive the $2 out-of-pocket price on 366 of the most commonly prescribed Medicare-eligible generic drugs.

“Hy-Vee is always looking for ways to help our pharmacy customers save money on their prescriptions,” Egeland said. “With the Pharmacy Saver program, Medicare patients don’t have to sacrifice convenience, flexibility or friendly, personalized service in order to get the lowest prices on the medications they need.”

To take advantage of Hy-Vee’s $2 prescription offer, customers eligible for Medicare must sign up for one of UnitedHealthcare’s Part D prescription drug plans or one of the company’s Medicare Advantage plans that includes prescription drug coverage during the annual enrollment period, which runs from now through December 31. Once enrolled, members show their UnitedHealthcare identification cards at any Hy-Vee or Hy-Vee Drugstore pharmacy to receive the Pharmacy Saver discounted prices.

A list of the 366 generic drugs available at Hy-Vee for the reduced out-of-pocket cost of $2 is available on the Pharmacy Saver website: www.UnitedPharmacySaver.com. The site also lists other national and regional chains in the Pharmacy Saver network, including Target, Safeway, Kroger, Publix, H-E-B, Food Lion and more. Egeland noted that Hy-Vee customers who enroll in the program can purchase prescriptions at any of more than 6,000 participating locations and receive the Pharmacy Saver discounts offered at that location – an option attractive to seniors who travel or spend the winter in warmer climates.

Egeland said the Pharmacy Saver program for Medicare beneficiaries is a complement to Hy-Vee’s everyday low price on more than 400 generic prescriptions -- $4 for a 30-day supply or $10 for a 90-day supply. The list of $4 generic medications is available on the Hy-Vee website or at any Hy-Vee pharmacy.
