COVID-19 Testing

Hy-Vee is offering COVID-19 testing at select Hy-Vee Pharmacy locations. All patients must register ahead of time in order to receive a test voucher and select a testing site and appointment time.

This program provides in-person COVID-19 testing for qualified individuals.


Rapid PCR COVID-19 Test

How It Works

Take the COVID-19 assessment.

  • If you are eligible for a test, select a test location, date, and time for your appointment.
  • DOWNLOAD and PRINT your test voucher and take it with you to the test site.
    Testing is only valid for the date printed on the voucher.
  • Arrive outside of the Hy-Vee Pharmacy and follow directional signage with your test voucher, photo ID, phone, and a credit/debit card. Testing will take place in a designated area in the store parking lot.
    Do NOT enter the store or pharmacy. Please remain in your vehicle with the window rolled up until staff arrives.
  • Call the designated pharmacy number listed on signage to notify pharmacy members that you have arrived.
  • A Hy-Vee Pharmacy member will verify your information and take payment over the phone.
  • A Hy-Vee Pharmacy member will provide the test kit and education on how to self-administer the test.* The pharmacy member will observe and verify the administration of the test.
  • You will be notified by email when your results are available. Results may be available in as few as 30 minutes (up to 1 day).

*Patients ages 5 to 17 will be administered the test by a parent/guardian.



Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Test

How It Works

  • Take the COVID-19 assessment.
  • If you are eligible for a test, select a test location, date, and time for your appointment.
  • DOWNLOAD and PRINT your test voucher and take it with you to the test site.
    Testing is only valid for the date printed on the voucher.
  • Arrive outside of the Hy-Vee Pharmacy and follow directional signage with your test voucher, photo ID, phone, and a credit/debit card. Testing will take place in a designated area in the store parking lot.
    Do NOT enter the store or pharmacy. Please remain in your vehicle with the window rolled up until staff arrives.
  • Call the designated pharmacy number listed on signage to notify pharmacy members that you have arrived.
  • A Hy-Vee Pharmacy member will verify your information and take payment over the phone.
  • A trained Hy-Vee Pharmacy member will administer the test at your vehicle. Patients must wear a mask in their vehicle for the testing process. Collecting the specimen should take less than 2 minutes to perform.
  • You will be notified by email when your results are available. Results may be available in as little as 1-2 hours.


COVID-19 Lab Test (Molecular PCR)

How It Works

  • Take the COVID-19 assessment.
  • If you are eligible for a test, select a test location, date, and time for your appointment.
  • DOWNLOAD and PRINT your test voucher and take it with you to the test site.
    Testing is only valid for the date printed on the voucher.
  • Arrive outside of the Hy-Vee Pharmacy and follow directional signage with your test voucher, photo ID and phone. Testing will take place in the pharmacy drive thru.
    Do NOT enter the store or pharmacy. Please remain in your vehicle with the window rolled up until staff arrives.
  • Call the designated pharmacy number listed on signage to notify pharmacy members that you have arrived.
  • A Hy-Vee Pharmacy member will verify your information over the phone.
  • A Hy-Vee Pharmacy member will provide the test kit and education on how to self-administer the test. The pharmacy member will observe and verify the administration of the test.
  • Once testing is complete, you will place your voucher in the test kit, seal the test and drop it off at the designated collection bin before exiting the testing site.
  • You will be notified when your results are available. Results should be available within 3-5 business days.


FAQs

Q: What do I need to bring to my test?
A: All patients must bring their test voucher and photo ID to the testing site, along with a mask to wear during the testing process.
Patients are also required to bring a credit/debit card.
Animals are prohibited at all testing locations. Learn more about the rapid PCR test, rapid antigen test, and the lab test (molecular PCR).
Q: What type of tests are being used?
A: The rapid PCR COVID-19 test uses an anterior nasal swab, which is self-administered by patients ages 18+. For patients ages 5 to 17, test administration is performed by a parent/guardian.
The rapid antigen COVID-19 test uses a nasopharyngeal or an anterior nasal swab, which is administered by a trained Hy-Vee Pharmacy member. Testing should take less than two minutes to perform.
The COVID-19 lab test (molecular PCR) uses an anterior nasal swab, which is self-administered by the patient. Testing should take less than one minute to perform.
Q: How much does each test cost?
A: Prices vary for the rapid COVID-19 PCR test and rapid antigen COVID-19 test, which are payable by credit or debit card only. Patients will pay for their test once arriving to the Hy-Vee Pharmacy testing location. Learn more about testing costs for the rapid PCR. and rapid antigen test.
At this time, there is no cost to patients for the COVID-19 lab test (molecular PCR).
Q: Is the rapid PCR COVID-19 test and/or rapid antigen COVID-19 test covered by insurance?
A: At this time, the rapid PCR and rapid antigen COVID-19 tests may only be purchased by credit or debit card. Upon test completion, patients will receive a receipt from Hy-Vee that they can submit to their insurer. Patients should check with their insurer before scheduling a test to confirm coverage.
Q: When will I receive my test results?
A: Patients who complete the rapid PCR COVID-19 test will receive their test results the same day in as few as 30 minutes (up to 1 day). An email notification will be sent to patients when results are available. Patients can log in to view and print their lab report.

Q: I don't drive. Can I walk up for a COVID-19 test?
A: Patients receiving any of the following tests are required to arrive in a vehicle with the windows rolled up and are not permitted to exit the vehicle or enter the testing location at any time:
Rapid PCR COVID-19 test
Rapid antigen COVID-19 test
COVID-19 lab test (molecular PCR)
All patients must register ahead of time in order to be tested. No walk-ins will be accepted at this time.
Q: I don't have any COVID-19 symptoms; can I still get tested for COVID-19?
A: Even if patients are not currently showing signs of symptoms, they may still be eligible for testing. To see if you qualify for testing, you must register online and complete the screening and enrollment process. To test for current COVID-19 infection, register for one of the following tests:
Rapid PCR COVID-19 test
Rapid antigen COVID-19 test
COVID-19 lab test (molecular PCR)
NOTE: According to clarifying guidance issued by the CDC on Dec. 5, 2020, only the following patients will be eligible for rapid antigen COVID-19 testing:
Patients who are symptomatic
Patients who are asymptomatic with a known or reported exposure in the last 14 days
* Any patient who is asymptomatic and has not had a known exposure in the last 14 days will not be eligible for rapid antigen testing.
