Originally sold as a premixed cocktail in the ’70s and ’80s, the rum, vodka and orange juice drink known as the Brass Monkey inspired the now-famous Beastie Boy’s song of the same name. This update adds a mellow ale.

Directions
Muddle remaining mandarin oranges and reserved syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add vodka, rum and coconut extract. Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Cover and shake well until chilled.
Strain into 2 (12-oz.) ice-filled rocks glasses. Top with ale. Garnish with reserved orange sections and cherries threaded onto cocktail picks, if desired.
