Chocolate Walnut Brownies

A chewy, fudgy texture and a rich chocolate flavor come from using a saucepan method and two types of chocolate.

4 oz. bittersweet chocolate, chopped | ||

2 Hy-Vee large eggs | ||
1 c. Hy-Vee all-purpose flour | ||
¼ c. Hy-Vee baking cocoa | ||
16 whole walnuts |
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8x8x2-in. baking pan with foil, extending the foil over edges of pan. Butter foil; set pan aside.
- Combine butter and chocolate in a heavy medium saucepan. Cook and stir over low heat until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth; cool slightly. Stir sugar, vanilla and salt into chocolate mixture until combined. Add eggs, one at a time, beating with a wooden spoon after each addition. Stir in flour and baking cocoa just until combined.
- Pour batter into prepared baking pan, spreading evenly. Arrange walnuts on top, lightly pressing into batter.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out almost clean, with a few moist crumbs clinging to it. Do not overbake. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Using the edges of the foil, lift uncut bars out of pan. Cut into bars with a sharp knife.
