Fiery Country Ribs

Description
This recipe really fires things up with a tablespoon of spicy crushed red pepper flakes. Beginners would be advised to start with half that amount.

4 lbs. bone-in country-style pork ribs | ||

Hy-Vee black pepper, to taste | ||
2 tbsp. Hy-Vee canola oil | ||
¼ c. Hy-Vee barbecue sauce | ||
1 tbsp. Hy-Vee dried thyme | ||
1 tbsp. Hy-Vee crushed red pepper flakes | ||
1 tbsp. smoked paprika | ||
1 tsp. fennel seed |

- Large rimmed baking sheet
- Aluminum foil
- Small bowl

Directions
- Preheat oven to 275 degrees.
- Season ribs with salt and black pepper. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat; add ribs and sear on all sides.
- Set ribs in a single layer on a large rimmed baking sheet. Cover with foil and bake for 2 hours.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine barbecue sauce, thyme, red pepper flakes, paprika and fennel seeds; set aside.
- After ribs have baked for 2 hours, brush ribs with half the sauce. Bake 30 minutes to 60 minutes more, or until meat is tender. Finish ribs with remaining sauce and serve immediately.
