4 c. cored and sliced apples | ||
⅓ c. lemon juice | ||
1 tbsp. butter or margarine, melted | ||
1 tsp. cinnamon | ||
¼ tsp. nutmeg | ||
¼ c. gluten-free brown sugar or honey | ||
½ c. apple juice, apple cider or water |
Directions
- Prepare apples, dipping each slice into lemon juice to prevent discoloration. Do not discard lemon juice.
- Melt butter or margarine in a skillet or large pan with a cover.
- Place apple slices in the skillet.
- Sprinkle apples with cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Mix lemon juice with brown sugar or honey. Stir gently into apple mixture.
- Add just enough apple juice, apple cider or water to cover the bottom of the pan.
- Turn heat to low. Cover pan. Cook until apples are done, but not mushy, stirring gently every 5 minutes.
