Fried Onion Rings

1 c. Hy-Vee all-purpose flour | ||
1 c. beer | ||
¼ tsp. Hy-Vee garlic powder | ||
1 large yellow onion, cut into thinly sliced rings | ||
Hy-Vee salt, to taste |
Directions
- In a deep fryer or large heavy saucepan suitable for deep-frying, heat oil to 365 degreesF. Follow instructions for quantity of oil for deep fryer. For heavy saucepan, allow at least 2 inches of oil.
- In a large bowl, stir together flour, beer and garlic powder until smooth. Working in batches, add onions to batter; toss and coat evenly, then add to hot oil.
- Fry until golden brown, about 1 to 2 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon, setting on paper towels to drain. Season to taste with salt.
