¾ c. Hy-Vee unsalted butter | ||
1 ½ c. Hy-Vee sugar, divided | ||
¼ c. mild molasses | ||
1 Hy-Vee large egg | ||
2 c. Hy-Vee flour | ||
2 tsp. Hy-Vee baking soda | ||
1 tsp. Hy-Vee cinnamon | ||
½ tsp. ground cloves | ||
½ tsp. Hy-Vee ginger | ||
½ tsp. Hy-Vee salt |

Directions
- Melt butter and let cool. Beat butter and 1 cup sugar. Add molasses and egg. Beat until smooth.
- In separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt. Add to wet ingredients and mix until incorporated. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in remaining 1/2 cup sugar. Place 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Flatten slightly.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Cool completely on wire racks before storing in an air-tight container.
