Grandma's Powdered Sugar Cookies

1 ½ c. sifted powdered sugar | ||
1 c. butter or margarine, softened | ||
1 egg, lightly beaten | ||
1 tsp. vanilla | ||
½ tsp. almond flavoring | ||
2 ½ c. flour | ||
1 tsp. baking soda | ||
1 tsp. cream of tartar |
Directions
- Beat together powdered sugar and butter. Stir in egg, vanilla and almond flavoring. Whisk together flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Stir in butter mixture. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Divide dough in half; cover and refrigerate half. Roll out dough on lightly floured board. Cut out cookies and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Repeat for other half of dough.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden brown. Cool cookies on a wire rack.
