    1 ½ c. sifted powdered sugar
    1 c. butter or margarine, softened
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    1 tsp. vanilla
    ½ tsp. almond flavoring
    2 ½ c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. cream of tartar

    Directions

    1. Beat together powdered sugar and butter. Stir in egg, vanilla and almond flavoring. Whisk together flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Stir in butter mixture. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.
    2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
    3. Divide dough in half; cover and refrigerate half. Roll out dough on lightly floured board. Cut out cookies and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Repeat for other half of dough.
    4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden brown. Cool cookies on a wire rack.
