Homemade BBQ Sauce

Chef Mark Webster developed this sweet all-purpose sauce, which is excellent with ribs and many other barbecue dishes.

4 c. Hy-Vee ketchup | ||
1 c. Hy-Vee apple cider vinegar | ||
1 ½ c. packed Hy-Vee dark brown sugar | ||
⅓ c. bourbon whiskey | ||
¼ c. Hy-Vee soy sauce | ||
2 tbsp. Hy-Vee taco seasoning | ||
2 tsp. Hy-Vee ground mustard | ||
1 tsp. Hy-Vee minced garlic | ||
½ tsp. Hy-Vee onion powder | ||
½ tsp. ground allspice | ||
¼ tsp. ground white pepper |
Directions
- In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, whiskey, soy sauce, taco seasoning, mustard, garlic, onion powder, allspice and white pepper. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes or until sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally.
- Note: For optimal flavor, refrigerate this sauce overnight to allow flavors to develop.
