Directions
Strain syrup through a fine-mesh sieve set over a bowl; do not stir mixture in sieve. Discard thickened liquid mixture in sieve (about 1 cup). Cool to room temperature. Store covered in the refrigerator up to 3 days.*
For punch, stir together syrup, apple juice, and if desired, rum in a 1½-gal. beverage dispenser. Add seltzer; gently stir to combine. Add ice. Serve in ice-filled 12-oz. glasses. Garnish with apple wedges, orange slices, star anise and cinnamon sticks, if desired.
*Serve leftover syrup over pancakes, waffles or ice cream, or in coffee.
