Rustic Apple Tart

Description
Because sometimes pies are too time consuming. This simple tart uses puff pastry, so all you have to do is add the filling and bake. But if you're feeling extra fancy, we included a simple orange-vanilla glaze.

5 c. apples, peeled, if desired, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch wedges | ||
2 tbsp. Hy-Vee lemon juice | ||
¼ c. Hy-Vee all-purpose flour | ||
¼ c. packed Hy-Vee brown sugar | ||
½ packet(s) (1 sheet) puff pastry, thawed | ||
1 egg white, lightly beaten | ||
1 tbsp. Hy-Vee butter | ||
⅓ c. Hy-Vee granulated sugar | ||
2 tbsp. Hy-Vee orange juice | ||
¼ tsp. Hy-Vee vanilla extract | ||
¼ tsp. almond extract |
Directions
- Combine apples and lemon juice. In another small bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Toss together flour mixture and apple mixture.
- Roll out puff pastry into a 12-inch square on an ungreased cookie sheet. Brush pastry with beaten egg white, topping with apple mixture. Dot with butter and fold edges towards center.
- Bake in a 350-degree oven for 40 minutes.
- Meanwhile, combine sugar, juice, vanilla and almond until smooth. Brush glaze over tart. Bake another 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
