Need to grill without the meat? This Vegan Black Bean Burger is a delicious vegan grilling solution. Pair with an Extra Special Bitter beer or Old-Vine Zinfandel wine.

1 (15 oz) can Hy-Vee no-salt-added black beans | ||
¼ c. Hy-Vee plain bread crumbs | ||
2 tsp. chopped fresh jalapeno pepper (about 1/2 jalapeno) | ||
1 tsp. Emeril's Essence | ||
1 clove(s) garlic, chopped | ||
2 hamburger buns, split and lightly toasted | ||
Fresh pico de gallo and lettuce leaves, optional |
Directions
- Preheat a gas or charcoal grill for direct heat over medium heat.
- Drain black beans, reserving 1/4 cup black bean liquid. Rinse and drain remaining black beans.
- In a food processor fitted with metal blade, combine black beans, reserved 1/4 cup liquid, bread crumbs, jalapeno, Essence and garlic. Process until beans are chunky, about 10 one-second pulses. Shape into two 4-inch-diameter patties.
- Grill burgers over medium heat until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees, about 5 minutes per side.
- Serve burgers on toasted buns. If desired, top with pico and lettuce leaves.
