Watermelon Basil Lemonade (Get Cooking)

¾ c. sugar, plus additional for sweetening | ||
1 c. thinly sliced fresh basil | ||
12 c. cubed and seeded watermelon | ||
1 c. fresh lemon juice, from 5 to 6 lemons | ||
Fresh watermelon slices and basil sprigs, for serving |
Directions
- To make watermelon simple syrup, bring water and sugar to a boil in a small saucepan. Reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in the basil. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Strain through a sieve over a bowl, and discard basil.
- Blend watermelon in a blender until smooth.
- Pour watermelon puree through a fine sieve into a large bowl. Reserve liquid; discard solids. Combine watermelon liquid, basil simple syrup and lemon juice in a pitcher over ice; chill. Adjust sweetness to taste.
- Garnish with fresh watermelon slices and basil sprigs before serving.
