Hy-Vee, Inc. continues to have a presence in storm-ravaged areas of Southwest Florida, providing food, snacks, water and ice to residents and first responders. Last Friday, Hy-Vee dispatched its emergency disaster relief fleet to Florida with more than 181,000 bottles of drinking water, 2,800 bags of ice, 2,800 cases of snacks and cleaning supplies.
Hy-Vee’s disaster relief team includes 28 employee volunteers and retirees who are working with local emergency responders, food banks and nonprofits to assist with relief and cleanup efforts specifically in Port Charlotte, Florida. Hy-Vee has partnered with Operation BBQ Relief out of Kansas City, Missouri, providing meals to impacted residents as well as emergency management teams. To date, Hy-Vee and Operation BBQ Relief have handed out or delivered approximately 50,000 meals per day.
The Hy-Vee disaster relief fleet includes Hy-Vee’s mobile command center, a mobile water system (which includes a tank and pump trailer), two Hy-Vee rapid response pickup trucks, and nine Hy-Vee semis. The fleet is scheduled to return to Iowa on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
