Battered Onion Rings

1 c. Hy-Vee milk or Baraboo beer | ||
1 tbsp. Hy-Vee canola oil | ||
1 c. Hy-Vee flour | ||
1 tsp. Hy-Vee baking powder | ||
¼ tsp. Hy-Vee salt | ||
large yellow onions | ||
Hy-Vee canola oil, for frying |
Directions
- Whisk egg in a large bowl. Whisk in milk and oil. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt, beating until smooth. Cover and set aside.
- While batter rests, slice onions and separate into rings.
- Heat canola oil to 375 degrees.
- Dip onions into batter. Carefully drop into hot oil and fry until golden brown, flipping halfway through. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel lined baking sheet.
