1 ½ c. Hy-Vee butter, divided | ||
5 tbsp. Hy-Vee cocoa, divided | ||
1 c. water | ||
2 Hy-Vee large eggs, beaten | ||
½ c. buttermilk | ||
1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp Hy-Vee vanilla, divided | ||
6 tbsp. Hy-Vee skim milk | ||
1 lbs. Hy-Vee powdered sugar |
Directions
- Whisk together sugar, flour, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Set aside.
- Combine 1 cup butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a rapid boil. Fold into dry ingredients. Beat in eggs, buttermilk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Pour into an ungreased 13-by-9-inch pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool about 20 minutes before frosting. Let cool completely before cutting and serving.
- To make frosting, bring remaining 1/2 cup butter, remaining 2 tablespoons cocoa and milk to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar and remaining 1 tablespoon vanilla. Pour evenly over warm bars.
