3 tbsp. shortening | ||
½ c. milk | ||
½ c. chopped nuts or raisins | ||

1 c. sugar | ||
3 c. boiling water | ||
2 tbsp. butter | ||
1 tsp. vanilla | ||
whipped cream or ice cream, for serving |
Directions
- Mix flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, shortening, milk, nuts and vanilla as you would prepare drop biscuits.
- Melt 1 cup sugar in heavy oven-proof skillet, being careful not to burn the sugar. Add boiling water, butter and vanilla.
- Drop pudding mixture into boiling syrup by the spoonful (not too large spoonfuls) to fill the skillet.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes in the skillet.
- Serve warm or cold as is, or add a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream.
